Capacity, horsepower and initial and operating costs are all extremely important aspects when selecting a cooling tower, but long term maintenance and care should also be heavily considered.
Importance of Proper Cross Flow Metal Cooling Tower Maintenance
Properly maintaining your cross flow cooling tower can save you time, money, energy, as well expand the life of the tower itself. This tower enables building owners and operators to take advantage of the operating cost savings inherent in water-cooled systems. Keeping the cross flow metal cooling tower well-maintained enables the entire cooling system to perform at optimum efficiency by conserving both energy and water.
A cross flow metal cooling tower provides fluid (usually water) to a specific design temperature and specific flow rate (GPM). System performance can suffer if the delivered temperature of the fluid to the system is higher than desired.
In today’s world, business owners are constantly challenged to keep operating costs down and are anxious to learn ways to get the most out of their systems with the least expense. When a regular, comprehensive cooling tower maintenance program is implemented cost benefits can be achieved by the owner.
Cost-Saving Opportunity
Those who have a working knowledge of cross flow metal cooling tower preventative maintenance and upgrade technology will get the most out of their cross flow metal cooling towers. The efforts of owners and operators of these cross flow metal cooling towers can yield many beneficial results, including:
- keeping them running smoothly and reliably
- increasing cooling tower life expectancy
- maintaining and potentially improving performance
Clean Operation
It is important that cross flow metal cooling tower components are kept clean and free of obstructions. Neglecting the cross flow metal cooling tower can lead to higher than desired return water temperatures to the system, which will result in higher energy usage from two perspectives. The system of chillers and heat exchangers will begin to consume more energy because it must operate at a higher than necessary condensing pressure (head) to satisfy the load. Secondly, the tower must operate longer at higher fan horsepower while trying to attain the design cold water temperature.
What PES-Solutions Can Do for You
Over the years, PES-Solutions has helped pioneer a piece of equipment we call A Lone Star Saw that we use to cut the bottom 5 to 5.5 inches of the fill away, giving enough room to abrasive blast the cold water basin. We know that lots of dirt, feathers, paper and all kinds of trash-pollution can get blown into the fill. With the removal of the lower portion of fill, dirt, and debris, it is easier to remove with just a garden hose during annual maintenance. We also repair the holes under the fill, as well as repair any panel joints that might be leaking. Lastly, we coat with 2 coats of PES 507 the area below the fill, which is a 2 part 100 percent solids Urethane.
