PES’ 300 SERIES PIPE WRAPPING SYSTEM is designed to be used anywhere air quality is precious. The 300 Series System is designed using a solvent free, non-flammable, thixotropic resin technology to easily rebuild long lengths of piping ranging from ½”- 48” round.
A manufacturing facility in Texas had severe corrosion and pinhole leaks starting to develop on their 26” 304L 18-gauge stainless steel duct work. This duct work carries Diluted Ammonia Sulfate and Fluoride vapors used in production, and to replace would shut down operations. This duct work normally runs under a vacuum level of 3 inches of water column but could easily withstand 100PSI, and with abrasive blast cleaning could withstand 300PSI.
PES crews were able to use our 300 Series Pipe Wrapping System to solve their ductwork problems and save the customer the costly replacement of their ductwork.
Our surface preparation consisted of hand sanding and wiping down ductwork with De-natured Alcohol. The PES crew then detailed flange rings and pipe saddles to create a slight taper using PES 302 Repair Cement and PES 180 Structural Adhesive. We created an even transition for applying the first wrap of PES 301 Epoxy Gel and 700 Series Fiberglass Tape.
The First wrap began with three each complete wraps to create an anchor, then working out to the right with a 50% overlap on each wrap and keeping fiberglass tape wetted out with 30-40 mil of PES 301 Epoxy Gel to the end of each section, then three complete wraps to anchor this layer. Once the first wrap was hardened enough to not be disturbed, a second and third layer was applied, and finished with a heavy coat of PES 301 @ 20-30 mils brushed on. We then coated the flanges and flange bolts with 30-40 mils of PES 301 to prevent any vacuum leaks.
